Chimayo Lunch Excursion
with Great Southwest Adventures
We travel north from Santa Fe through the Nambe valley and dramatic sandstone cliffs to Chimayo, a Spanish American town at the base of the mountains that dates to the early 1700s. Your guide will share information and stories about the landscape and natural and cultural history of this rich region as we journey.
We’ll visit the Sanctuario de Chimayo, a beautiful adobe church that is a significant Catholic Pilgrimage site known for its miraculous healing dirt. For those who like to cook, there is an excellent shop for buying New Mexico chile powder, an essential component of New Mexican cuisine. We’ll also visit a highly acclaimed Spanish weaving studio that houses the work of numerous local artists and is a colorful feast for the eyes.
Lunch is at the Rancho de Chimayo, a former Spanish family home or hacienda that has been the hub of this community since 1965. Authentic New Mexican food and drink will delight your senses.
